When the War Came

Man, so I am really struggling to write my Spanish oral presentation at the moment. Work I’m fine, socialising I’m fine, even PMP I’m pretty fine. But I just can’t seem to sit down and write paragraphs of Spanish about the environment and global warming and stuff. I mean, I want to make it interesting and funny, but gosh, how does one make global warming entertaining? Actually I should say climate change there – climate change thumbs up, global warming thumbs down from me. But that is beside the point.

What was the point again? Oh yeah, blogging instead of Spanish. The thing is, Spanish is probably the most important thing of the lot. Well, in that it’ll be the most difficult. It’s also the least important, in that it doesn’t actually count towards my degree. It does count towards Scott’s degree, though, so I’d better do my bit.

On another note, doing something energetic for a change felt very good indeed. Should do this more often.

Dinosaur on the Ark

So my blogging schedule has been pretty terrible, hey? Blame it on either my life being too awesome, or too busy. Really, it’s been both and neither.

Uni is actually kind of getting me down (again). It’s coming to that time of semester where it all starts piling up, and at the same time I’m getting bored by all my subjects, and thus have not much motivation at all, except that I only have a few of weeks before my next class will be in Sweden. That is a pretty cool thought.

Don’t think I’ve been procrastinating, though. Well, actually, you can think that, because of course I have, but I’ve simultaneously been extraordinarily productive. I’ve been really enjoying TRS work, and so have been putting a lot of time and effort into those projects. It’s been both fun and rewarding, and I hope it, or something along those lines, continues for a while yet.

In more personal news, I am yet again single. This is not unexpected (on my behalf, at least, and that of of mother), but the reasons I’m single make me feel like a bit of an arse. But I won’t go into them here.

Saturday afternoon was by far one of the most enjoyable gigs I’ve ever been to. I managed to snag (highly exclusive!) tickets to see Jens Lekman in some dude’s backyard. His name was Simon and he lives in Five Dock and it was his birthday party. Odd, but I am eternally grateful to him. Jens was amazing, and I think he is my new crush – even more so than James Dean! Helps that he is alive and stuff.

Speaking of crushes, Emiliana Torrini is coming back in early January, as is Andrew Bird. I have the option to see them in either Sydney or Melbourne, but can’t decide which. AB is playing the Opera House, but I’d probably rather see him in a smaller venue like the Hi Fi. That said, he’d be pretty amazing at the Opera House. Hrm. But really, I will probably be in Victoria for New Years’ (unless I get a better offer in Sydney), and might even have moved back by that time. I’ll leave for Sweden on about the 15th, so I’ll need time to pack and all that, but at the same time I prefer being in Sydney. Tricky decisions!

Last but not least, I need to learn how to pick ripe avocados. Not-yet-ripe avocados are not quite so tasty.

It’s Like a Love Affair

The two playlists I can’t stop listening to at the moment:

Stranger – Angus & Julia Stone
Silver Coin – Angus & Julia Stone

Your Arms Around Me – Jens Lekman
Samson – Regina Spektor
I’m Leaving You Because I Don’t Love You – Jens Lekman
Is There a Ghost – Band of Horses
Festival - Little Scout
Dead Loss – Little Scout
Marry Song – Band of Horses
Shirin – Jens Lekman
Detlef Schrempf – Band of Horses
The Greatest – Cat Power
And I Remember Every Kiss – Jens Lekman
No One’s Gonna Love You – Band of Horses
Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis – Brand New
West Coast – Coconut Records
Armchairs – Andrew Bird

I’d combine them, but they’re too different, and the second is an old one, too sacred to be changed.

Try and guess how I’m feeling?

P.S. I started to write about Fiji, but I only got a few paragraphs in before I couldn’t be bothered any more. Hopefully I’ll continue it soon. I had an excellent time, anyway.
