Wax and Candles and Burning Cobwebs

Wow, so I guess you’re excited to hear about my time so far in Ballarat, right?  Right? Well, fine then. I shall tell anyway.

I was worried about having to organise something with friends for the weekend, as even though it always turns out alright, it’s generally pretty hard to get everyone in the same place at the same time. This time my work has been done for me, though! Jackson is home from the Air Force, and so he’s having a thing at his place tomorrow night, and everyone (who matters) is coming along. Excellent!

He, Daniel, Mollie and I also got together tonight for pizza and TV-watching, and then Mollie left and the rest of us went to see The Hangover. Which was surprisingly funny! Admittedly it helped a great deal that Jackson’s very loud laughing was pretty infectious, but regardless it surpassed my expectations. If you want an hour and forty minutes of humour you don’t have to think about it, I recommend it.

Sorry, realised I’m going backwards here, but you’ll have to deal with it. Yesterday Mollie and I went to Daylesford, for no particular reason other than Mollie felt like going to Daylesford, and I will go in girlish shops without complaining (I may even enjoy it at times). It was pretty nice, despite the cold. I really quite like Daylesford. Kind of less bohemian and more yuppie these days, but still worth the trip and the nice little shops. I even bought a couple of llamas, and Mollie got a saint bracelet (like from Twilight, apparently).

Yesterday my Dad also got married, although I only realised about an hour beforehand, when the clues started to click and my brother actually asked. I mean, I knew he was getting married, and I knew it was either yesterday or next Tuesday, but I’d pretty much given up and figured it was next Tuesday, because I assumed it would be during the day. Let’s just say it was a quiet affair. I was not invited, along with any other family. Just them and a couple of friends each.

It’s funny, Dad asked me what I thought about it the other day, and I told him that, honestly, although I was happy that he was happy and all that, I don’t actually care. As far as I can see, it doesn’t make a difference to my life at all. I’m rarely home at the best of times, and Bronwyn has been there for the last couple of years anyway. So congratulations Dad?

The rest of my time has been spent with my family and fixing up my car a bit (often both at the same time). My car almost had a working heater tonight, but things went a little awry and, well, it doesn’t. Not a fully functional one, anyway. The air conditioning is working again though, and I’m learning more and more about how to fix things on the car.

Picking up Lexie from the airport tomorrow, and she’s staying in Ballarat for a couple of nights before venturing to Melbourne. I don’t really have anything planned besides tomorrow night, but I’m sure we’ll think of something nice to do. The Ballarat area actually isn’t that short of places to take a girlfriend, really. Shame about the weather.

Oh, I also have more news on the Chile / deferring / Sweden thing. I don’t even remember how much I said on that here, pretty sure I got sick of it and stopped. Well, there’s this idea that I could do Uni this semester at UTS, then take up my boss’ offer of going to Sweden next semester. Which, assuming I could get credit for electives at UTS, would mean I would have hardly anything left afterwards, and I would get the change to do actually useful and interesting subjects, as opposed to the (mostly) crap I’ve got left to choose from here. Worth a shot, right?

The other option was deferring, the thought of which is still swirling around in my head, but which is also slowly floating away. To be honest, I’m kind of liking the idea of working for Emotum after I finish University, but I don’t like the idea of finishing in three and a half years. Two years would be much nicer, especially with one of those being spent overseas. I realise this would possibly sacrifice some of the chances of TRS making it big in the next year or two, but in a way I think it would be nice to get some better real-world experience first, and Emotum would be an excellent place to do that, as would wherever I worked in Sweden.

As for Chile?  Well, I could definitely still go there next semester, but for some reason I’ve been getting less and less enthusiastic about the idea recently, and I’ve been a bit scared to admit it. It’s been something I’ve been working towards for so long now, and my desire is just… Dissapating. But really, I shouldn’t feel bad. It’s not as if I’m just giving up on it and settling for something less. It’s just that I’ve realised I have other opportunities, and other goals, and I might be better of working towards them instead, despite how interesting an experience Chile would most certainly be.

Anyway, bed time, right? See you later some time, I guess.
