You Can Fake It For A While

So MAN, life is pretty up and down right now! But I guess that is what life is for, a lot of the time, and I guess it has made things pretty interesting. I have been enjoying the ups more than the downs, though.

The ups involve spending fun times with friends, mostly. Like Monopoly nights, and mini-beaches, and Japanese restaurants, and trips to Mt Colah to play Uno and another mysteriously named card game which I have since forgotten the name of (a whole two hours later). They also involve movie evenings at work, which I had to stick around for because the movie was chosen almost specifically for me*. Not that I would not have stayed anyway, what with the offer of fun and laughter and beer.

The downs involve a number of things, most of which I am not prepared to go into right here and now, partly because I am in a pretty excellent mood and do not feel particularly inclined to ruin it. Basically it involves my attitute to other people, and my um morals OH and only eating four dollars worth of my six (yes, SIX) dollar meal from the Lansdowne (the four dollars I ate was pretty good, though). The first and third are closely related, if you were wondering.

Anyway it is getting pretty late, but I feel like writing. Sadly but understandably it is not currently my turn to write to a certain nice American friend of mine, so I am taking it out on you, the reader(s) of my blog. Sorry? But I guess if you have read this far then you cannot be minding it too much. But oh yes, good night!

* Caddyshack, because everyone was shocked and appalled after discovering I had not seen it. What can I say? The movie is eight years my senior! It was excellent, by the way.

PEBKAC

If you notice any of your comments missing from the last post or two, I’m sorry, I didn’t delete them on purpose. I may have just been playing around with installing Trac on my server this evening, and managed to somehow completely screw everything, so I had to restore from a backup image to fix everything. The backup was from the 12th, so there isn’t much missing, but yeah, a few comments.

I think I might have to play around with a server in a virtual machine before going live from now on…

Floppied, Hallucinations

This morning I had a 3 ½ inch floppy thrown at me (at least, I’m pretty certain that’s what it was) by some crazy homeless guy at the Broadway bus stop. He seemed to be yelling at a lot of people, so I’m not sure why he picked me to throw the disk at. Odd, anyway.

Last night I had that weird kind of hallucination where you’re awake, but, well, you think things are there that are not. I’d be sitting up in bed, and doing various other things, because there’s some sort of weird scenario going on in my head in which there’s other people there, and I have to behave accordingly. Then, eventually, I’ll snap out of it, realise what was going on, and go back to sleep.

I don’t know if any of you have that kind of thing happen, but I get it every once in a while. Not sure why, it’s just… Random, it seems. Not a terribly horrible thing, except that I’ll probably be completely screwed this afternoon, but I guess that was almost inevitable anyway.

Frick

Frick, why did I do that? Stupid… Inhibitions.

Frick, Natalie Imbruglia was playing in Broadway.

Frick, ABBA was playing in Broadway.

Frick, I have them both stuck in my head.

Frick, I’m tempted to download them.

Frick, I saw Bowser the three-legged demon dog. I managed to sneak past undetected, though.

Other than that, though, this morning has been good. I had to do a photo shoot, because somebody lost my photo from last year’s IT Brochure, or only had it in black and white, or something. I actually enjoyed it – Jenny just makes me laugh, and the photographer takes lots of photos. Simple.

I can’t decide whether to do work or go and buy shoes. I went out to buy shoes yesterday, but Athlete’s Foot in Centrepoint closed down last Friday (along with the rest of Centrepoint), so I have to trek out to Bondi Junction, or something. Hrm.

Going out to World Bar tonight, should be fun. Andreas has been trying to get us to go out to a club with him for the last 6 months or so, and we finally gave him the chance, less that a week before he leaves the country. World Bar is nice, though. Hopefully BITs are, too (eek).

To Kevin07 Re: Education Tax Refund

Dear Mr Rudd,

You’ve done it again! Except this time it probably was not your own mistake, but that of the Tax Office. Anyway, I went down to collect the mail this afternoon, and I was mildly excited to see a letter from the Tax Office with the words ‘Education Tax Refund’ printed on the envelope. I was thinking “whee, money!” I mean, I participate in education, and I pay tax, so what else could it be? Alas, it was not to be. I opened the envelope to find a generic letter regarding rebates for high school  education expenses. Kevin, I will let you know here and now:

I am a childless University student. I’m sure it would be handy for some people, however I have no intention (or method) of seeking “50% back on [my] child’s education expenses”.

Please remember this for all future correspondence. Way to crash my hopes and dreams, Kev.

Thanks,

James

Make a Rough Plan, Don’t Keep It

This evening has been strangely (but thankfully) excellent and wholesome so far. I signed off from work positively, being guaranteed tomorrow off, with the possibility of Wednesday following suit. I took a different way home, which added a bit of time, but, well, was different. Given the location of our new office, there are seemingly endless possibilities for re-routing my walk, which should be nice. Especially because the majority of them avoid busy roads for the most part. I felt really good from the walking, accompanying music (thank you, Lexie), and perfect weather, and the whole thing culminated in meeting Silke on Mountain St. Wonderful, amazing Silke, who has just returned from a two-month overseas trip – a treat to herself for finishing Uni. She’s moving to Coogee and doing Honours, so we’ll be catching up soon.

Oh, and one more thing. I walked in to discover everything had been blown off my windowsill. Including a lidless container that was full of dirty water (I’ve been in the process of cleaning the outside of my window… Tough stuff). The strange thing, however, is that there is no dirty water in sight, save a couple of drips down the wall, and I’m not even sure if they’re from the same thing. The container is completely dry, as is the cloth that was sitting in it. Can an inch of water evaporate in a few days without me noticing?
