You Know You Have To Rethink Your Music Listening Habits…

…When 5, 6, 7, 8 by Steps comes up on your personal Last.fm radio station.

Disclaimer: I’ve only ever played this song 5 times, which I believe is a number low enough to still be categorised under “primary school nostalgia”.

Talk About Dancing…

It’s kind of nice when there’s been a decision you’ve been brooding over for quite some time, unable to decide one way or another, and then suddenly something happens that makes it absolutely clear which way you want to go.

This happened to me tonight, and it’s a pretty nice relief.

Just a note in regards to the title: the decision itself was nothing to do with actually dancing; it’s just a nice hint to help me remember. :P

A Fatal Premonition

A couple of nights ago, while listening to the interesting combination of Incubus and The Fray, I had a wonderfully strange feeling. A feeling which, I almost regret to admit, I haven’t felt since year 12, as far as I recall (okay, so there was the possible exception of a certain time after a certain train trip last year, but that was different again).

I was amazingly excited, with butterflies in my stomach, smiling and laughing constantly. I was literally struggling to breathe at times. Yet there was one catch… I have no idea who the girl was. I mean, it was most certainly that kind of feeling; when you’re completely infatuated with a girl and can’t get her out of your mind, but… Yeah. I can’t for the life of mework out who I was infatuated with.

I went through the obvious possibilities, and even onto all the other girls I could think of, but nothing came up. So either I’m only supposed to know who it was subconsciously, it’s a girl I’m yet to meet, or… Well, maybe I’ve just gone completely crazy.

Though I have to admit, I rather like it; if I’m going to go crazy, it might as well be crazy with happiness.

Actually… Maybe she’s from one of the dreams I’ve been having. That would explain subconsciously ‘knowing’ her, but not being able to pinpoint it. I guess that wouldn’t surprise me greatly, although in a way it kind of, well… Sucks.

Eye Games at the Dinner Table…

…Are fun, especially when you’re simultaneously distracting your dining companions with remarks about their eating habits.

Sex == CityRail?

From SMH:

Sex for most couples is like travelling on the NSW train system – it’s unpredictable, a bit dirty and you never quite know when you’ll finally get off. This is one of its delights. Why would you ever want to turn it into factory work?

Thank you, Richard Glover.

Updated, Faster RSS Feeds

Okay, so I don’t know if anybody else has noticed it, but my RSS feeds have been super slow to update recently, especially the comments one (up to a couple of days delay). It doesn’t affect me to a great extent, because I also get an email any time somebody leaves a comment, but it is certainly frustrating. Anyway, in an attempt to rectify this problem, I set up my feeds to work with FeedBurner, and everything seems to be updating nice and instantaneously. The old feeds should still work as they did before (although I haven’t tested them), however I highly recommend updating your links to these:

And enjoy fast RSS feeds once again!

Exam, Dreams, Indy, Bugs, and a Blog (With All-New Rating System!)

It seems like a recurring theme the last couple of months – I’ve been super busy! Yet no matter how long it’s been going on, I can’t seem to work out whether this is a good or bad thing. Like, I enjoy having things to do, and most of them tend to be fairly interesting, however a lot of the time I just feel like being horribly selfish and ditching everything for a couple of days/weeks by myself, with no things to do, places to go, people to see… Maybe I’ll get some of that time in the two weeks before I go home, although I wouldn’t count on it (still, exciting things like movie nights coming up!).

My Information Systems Development Methodologies exam was yesterday. I can’t say I ever thought I was terribly well prepared, but after looking at the questions on the paper, I realised exactly how little I’d done in the way of study. You see, Tom, Steve and I devised a brilliant plan, so that we didn’t have to study quite so much. Our lecturer told us that we would only need to know about a specific three ‘types’ of methodologies, and that the exam would be similar to a lot of the tutorial exercises. A great deal of the tutorial exercises were case studies, where we had to pick the most suitable methodology, and state why.

So, naturally, what would you do if you didn’t want to study much? Why, pick one, maybe two, of the ‘best’ methodologies from each group, learn them well, and be prepared to argue for their use. But apparently that’s where we went wrong. For most the exam, the questions covered specific methodologies. And not just any methodologies – the most obscure, useless ones the lecturer could find. Still, I managed to include some Swedish, due to one of the methodologies being from Sweden (“‘Klicka har pa installningar tradlos’, as the Swedes would say. Very wise words indeed”. It actually means something along the lines of ‘Click here to setup wireless’, but they won’t know that), explain my choice of plurals (focuses / foci), and put in a Michael Jackson joke.

Despite the messing around, it was the kind of thing you could bullshit most of the way through, so I’m fairly confident of passing. And even if I don’t, I’ll get over it. It’ll be a sad loss of however much money I am going to pay for it, but I’ll be damned if I’m ever going to go near it again. 0.5/10 (the 0.5 being for the Indian we had after tutorials during semester, and the lame jokes I amused myself with).

For a long time now I’ve rarely been able to remember any dreams I’ve had, and almost came to the conclusion that I’d stopped dreaming altogether. But the last couple of weeks have changed all that, as I’ve been dreaming a considerable amount. And not just any kind of dreams – ones that are clear, and that I can control. Like, control everything. Lucid dreams, even. It’s weird. That and I can remember them to a fair degree after I wake up, which is also unusual in my case. Anyhow, maybe it’ll lead to something interesting… Who knows? 8/10.

The other night I went out to see the new Indiana Jones movie with Germaine, a friend from Uni (you may recall her from here). She’d already seen it, but was keen to give it another shot, after finding the first viewing almost unbearable. My opinion on the film? I actually really enjoyed it. It was cheesy, unrealistic, and Harrison Ford is old, but it was fun, fast-paced, and I never once became bored with it. Until the last 10 per cent or so, that is. I mean… Aliens? Indy getting married? Come on, George! You can do better than that; should’ve learned your lesson from the new Star Wars trilogy. 7.5/10.

That same night we went out for dinner at a Korean place on Glebe Point Road, which was introduced to me by Lexie. Despite only having been there once before, I’d been craving it for a couple of weeks, and it fulfilled all my expectations. 9/10.

Strangely enough, that night overall does not rate at the average of the two main activities. Somehow they, combined with the company and whatnot, add up to something more. 9.5/10 (10 if I actually did have to jump out of the car while it was moving).

Usually when I get annoyed by a bug, I will just chase it away or move it to a more convenient location (like the hallway). And when they’re in the shower, I help them out so that they don’t get drowned. But for some reason today I slightly freaked out and squashed a bug on my desk. I have no idea why, I just kind of… Did it. But then I freaked out even more and started apologising and shaking and feeling awful. I haven’t intentionally killed a bug in years. Why on earth did I do it then? Any suggestions for making it up to the bug world? I still feel horrible about the whole thing. 0/10.

I recently subscribed to a blog by a group of college students over in the US. It’s called The Bygone Bureau, and as far as I can remember, Steph found it… Wait. Apparently I found it, and sent the link to Steph. Okay, so I have no idea how I found it, but it was because of their Indie T-shirts That Would Never Sell post. Apparently the rest of the blog is also highly interesting and amusing, so I highly recommend checking it out. 8/10.

Anyway, that’s about it for this (super-massively-long) post. I need to eat! And study for my Databases exam on Tuesday and all that. See you later! :)

Some Constellation

Occasionally I’ll read my horoscope, just to see what it says. Who knows, maybe it’ll save me some day? Anyway, today it told me the following:

Sunday, Jun 15th, 2008 – You shine when you are drawn into the spotlight, but today your preference might be to sit quietly on the sidelines. You are attracted to the idea of staying home and traveling in your mind, rather than in the outer world. Be imaginative; it’s easier to move around from place to place metaphysically, plus you won’t be limited to just one destination.

Well, I’ve got news for you, Mister Horoscope! You were right on, but I beat you to it. I woke up at around 10am, but didn’t get out of bed until closer to 4pm. I didn’t really sleep; just drifted in and out of consciousness, from one daze to another, with my mind wandering all over the place, making up fantastical stories and situations. A couple of times I considered getting up, just because I figured I *should*, but hey, it’s holidays, and my bed was oh so cozy (cold enough outside to make my bed really appealing, but not cold enough to make my bed also cold). I have time to catch up before work on Wednesday!

So, another Sunday brilliantly spent! :D

Recent Happenings in Photo Form

So I discovered that I have a heap of pictures on my phone, and, well, where better to put them than here, where they can tell some sort of (fragmented) story? (click images to load larger versions – some of them need it).

First up, Lizzie and I on the night Steve thought we were drunk. We had these on before he came over, though (I was trimming a poster, and these bits had bluetack on them… What else were we going to do?). I am ‘Enabler’ and Lizzie is ‘Bad Person’.

Enabler

Bad Person

Anyway, click to see more below the break thingy (didn’t want too many pictures taking up everything (space, bandwidth, etc).
