Update in regards to lotsa Stuff and Things

Eh, so a lot has happened since my last blog! Four main things come to mind:

- Finished first year of Uni! This is pretty cool. No major celebration, but I’m content and happy about it. And surprisingly enough, I don’t think I failed anything. Hope not, anyway! Actually, my best subject looks like being the one I didn’t turn up to most of the lectures for, ironically enough.

- Election party!!! I had such a good time, it was awesome. Thanks to Steve for being the main proponent of the idea, and thanks to everyone who came and made it great! Which was mostly my flatmates and their friends, actually. Also thanks to Kevin Rudd for winning, and John Howard for giving a much better speech than Kevin Rudd.

- Lizzie stayed over for like… 4 days? Because she’s moved back to Newcastle and all, she can’t just go home, so I was forced to spend time with her. Which was a good thing! Lol. I enjoyed it, especially lazing around in Vic Park and finding out that I look like a vegatarian. Twice. Now she’s back in Newcastle though…

- Xbox!! Been playing plenty of Assassin’s Creed, and it’s pretty awesome! Gets a little repetitive at times, however I don’t think I could ever get sick of climbing stuff and assassinating people and/or throwing them off tall buildings just to hear the crowd scream on the road underneath. Steve and I have also been playing coop The Simpsons Game, which is also totally awesome, and very funny and whatnot. In that it’s probably better than The Simpsons Movie. Hilarious! I’ve also been meaning to play some Mass Effect, but have been too engrossed in Assassin’s Creed to get a chance yet.

Other than that… Mum is coming on the weekend, I’m so excited! It shall be awesome, I assume. Also I am getting my profile put in the IT Undergraduate brochure and on the FIT website. My profile is pretty funny, it has the word ‘quipped’ in it. Oh, and the work Christmas break-up party is this Friday night. We are going bowling and karaoke’ing. Should be good fun!

And in the sad news of the day/week… SILKE IS GONE!! Well, I saw her for the last time this morning, at least. She is going to Germany (ie her home) for the holidays. I will see her again when she gets back, but still! Gah! Who will I talk to when I would usually talk to her? Who will tell Rob and Jack to stop kicking footballs in the apartment? (Actually, that point is pretty moot, as Jack has pretty much left). Who will… Be RN?! Etc etc you get the point.

Actually, that reminds me. I’m applying for RN next year. Should be cool!

Anyway, I better stop writing and GET BACK TO WORK. Or get back to watching funny soccer videos on YouTube with my boss. Either way.

Separated, Almost Over

Lizzie has gone back to Newcastle! Which will be a big change… It feels like I’ve spent more time with her than not over the past three weeks or so. Which, as I mentioned in a previous post, is kind of weird, just because I usually can’t spend that much time with one person (or multiple people, for that matter). Oh well, everything is going pretty fantastically, so it’s all good :) .

My last exam is tomorrow morning, so I’ve been (not really) busy collating notes for it. It’s open book, so screw actual study! The only thing is, it’s at 9:30am. I mean, gah! Less than 10 hours away. But by 12:30pm tomorrow, first year will be over completely, which will be pretty cool. It also leaves the next three months for playing Xbox, learning violin, and reading books. Among other things.

Eh, I don’t even know why I’m blogging. I thought I wasn’t going to write boring, diary-like blogs any more. I guess that went out the window!

Dear New Scientist…

Thanks to you, I am currently having an existential crisis relating to parallel universes. Ever since I heard about them last year, I’ve been fascinated, and pretty keen on the idea, however your article Parallel universes born again in the September 22 issue really got me thinking about some of the possible implications arising from an infinite number of parallel universes, with new ones forming all the time. Is this only my universe? Does everyone else have their own universes, that have split from mine, and I am only involved with certain ‘versions’ of each person I know. Am I in multiple universes at once? What does this mean?

My head hurts.

In a good way.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

James

Missing

This morning I got two text messages wondering where I was, and why I wasn’t on Facebook and/or Gmail. At first I took this as a good sign – people notice when I’m gone. But then I realised the full implications of such a thing, and I don’t think it’s actually very good at all. People expect me to be on the computer. All the time. Because I’m usually on there all the time.

Egads!

On a secondary note, FIFA ‘08 is one sweet game. Blame it for my disappearance from teh Internets this morning.

Site Down, 22 Hours

Weirdest thing happened today – my entire blog was down, but the rest of jhosking.com was fine. No idea why. Obviously it’s okay now. Any suggestions as to what may have happened?

In other news, I spent about 22 hours straight with Lizzie a day or two back, and coped perfectly fine. It freaked me out. Admittedly, a good number of those hours were spent sleeping, but I usually have trouble spending more than a couple of hours with one person, let alone a whole 22 of them. Seriously, I’m creeped. I suppose it’s a good thing, though :p.

The Little Things

It’s funny when the little things that you toss in as a little extra turn out to be ‘better’ than the original (‘non-extra’) things themselves. Take, for example, my birthday present to Lizzie. My main gift to her, along with a card, was a Belle and Sebastian CD. As a little extra, I randomly decided to make up a ‘Mix CD’ of songs that I thought she might like in one way or another. This as a gift didn’t even come wrapped or with a track listing (my printer wasn’t being cooperative), but *seems* to have been more of a hit than the original gift. Which is cool! I was slightly embarrassed about it, but I put a fair bit of effort into choosing the songs, and it’s a very cool feeling to have it enjoyed and appreciated. So, I shall take note of this finding in the future, and make an effort to put in some extra ‘personal’ effort, I think. :)

All Men Are Liars – YouTube Friday

Every now and then, the All Men Are Liars blog will do something called YouTube Friday, and post some interesting YouTube videos. Today’s were all worth the time I spent watching them, plus a heap. You should check them out! It’ll be worth it, I promise.

Post-Assignments: Exams & Distractions

No. More. Assignments. Ever.

Well, until March next year, anyway :D . Handed in my Programming assignment Monday, after a fairly big Sunday doing the whole thing, and then CBP was in Tuesday, after a bit of last-minute stuff. CBP was really pretty good in the end, our group worked well together (except for one guy, who did nothing). Hopefully I do okay in both of them!

This leaves exams to come. I have five of them all up – three official one, and two in class time (this Friday and next Friday, for Networking). I plan to do some study eventually, but I guess only time will tell if that actually happens. I have too many distractions to bother with study… Blame Lizzie for this. Not that this is a bad thing; if I didn’t have distractions, I would just be finding distractions. I wouldn’t actually study more. Study is boring.

I’m actually looking forward to going home next time, even though it’s still another six weeks or so away (I might sneak back for a little bit before then, who knows). I’m starting to miss people, which is about the only reason I like going back. It’s not as if I actually like Ballarat… Lol.

Anyway, catch you all later! :)
