Kubuntu Edgy!

I must say, tonight has been a rather interesting night! Kubuntu 6.10 (Edgy Eft) was released last night, and I was desperate to get hold of it, so I’ve been up all this time downloading and installing it. Oh, for those of you who don’t know, Kubuntu is a derivative of Ubuntu Linux – it’s an Operating System!! So yeah, I’m writing from Firefox 2.0 (!!!) in Kubuntu Edgy. At 5:30 in the morning! I’m just installing a few programs, then I’ll head back to Mum’s and get some nice sleep! I haven’t played much with Kubuntu, but it looks pretty awesome so far. Not too different overall, but definitely some little quirks have been smoothed out to make it a helluva lot easier to use :)

Other than that… Smitty and I were testing ‘JChat’ last night (Smitty’s own MSN-type chat client, which he is porting from Visual BASIC to Java). It had some interesting little bugs, to say the least, but it’s definitely on track to becoming pretty awesome. But then he had to go to bed, as he has his English exam this morning at 9:00am. Fun!!

I can’t remember if anything else interesting happened today (and by today, I mean yesterday). I went to school, and finally started to comprehend Maths, so that was good. Yeah. Okay I’m tired and going to bed. Cyas!

SWOT VAC Day 3

Yay another blag! I don’t think anyone is reading them though – I got a couple of comments on my MSN Space saying that they can’t be bothered going to my LiveJournal and that RSS feeds suck. I beg to differ, but meh. So yeah, if anyone does actually read this, can you just leave a pretty little comment to let me know please? It doesn’t have to be exciting or anything!

Last night was rather interesting indeed. I did a fair bit of study I suppose, but then I was talking to Smitty on MSN and we decided we wanted to go for a drive (at 12:30am). So… we did! It was rather fun indeed. There was a slight incident though – I parked in Lydiard St at about 2:30am to wait for Smitty, and a cop pulled up beside me. I had to give him my license, answer a few questions about myself and the car, and then be breath tested. Of course, since I don’t drink, I was obviously below the legal limit :P , so everything was dandy, and they told me to have a good night and then drove off. So my first encounter with the cops was a pretty good one. Then we went home after a bit (got home about 3am).

Today was a pretty intense study day, I suppose. I went to the city library with Kale and Tiana, and I actually got a heap of work done, and am feeling pretty confident for all my subjects except for Methods, which is scaring the hell out of me. But yeah, the day was good all the same. It’s good studying with a small group – it motivates you more. You see the others doing work and you think “oh, they are doing work, so I suppose I should keep going too!”. As long as you don’t distract each other! In the early evening we got sick of studying so made a trip to the Botanical Gardens. As usual, they were very lovely and I had a really nice time. Then I took Kale and Tiana home (they both live in Lake Gardens, so it’s pretty easy) and drive home myself!

I had to drive Cal to Venturers too tonight, which is only about half a block away, but they were having a holloween night and Cal was all dressed up and was too embarrassed to walk there! I didn’t mind, though :P .

I think that’s about it. I’m going into school tomorrow to do some more study. Let’s hope it’s as productive and fun as today!

SWOT VAC

So, today was the first official day of SWOT VAC week, which is basically a week of (supposedly) intense study before exams start. Don’t ask me why it’s called SWOT VAC. I don’t think even the teachers know!

Anyway, I decided I’d better go into school for a while, as Frances (my Literature teacher) organised to have classes as usual and study a text per double period. Today was Shakespeare – King Lear day, and since I am most likely doing that on the exam, I figured I better turn up. It was actually rather interesting. We watched some video that had a guy doing a personal analysis of the play, and I learnt stuff and there wasn’t too much crappy music to ruin it. Then we watched another analysis video. This one was full of dodgy music, didn’t have anything in it that we didn’t already know, and was lead by a weird guy with a British accent that kept sitting on window sills in corners. It was freaky.

I also discovered that we don’t have to wear our school uniform to school this week, which would’ve been handy to know BEFORE I arrived at school. Actually, I probably just wasn’t listening when we were told. So yeah, I drove home straight after the Lit class and got changed, then I went to drop some DVDs back at the rental place and picked Cal (my brother) up from school. Then I got the newspaper and went to the Botanical Gardens and lay/sat and read for an hour or two. It was lovely. I must do it more often, as long as the weather is great like it was today.

Squash and racquetball was next on my to-do list (actually I didn’t have a to-do list, but yeah I went to squash and racquetball all the same). Racquetball was pretty good, and I won in straight sets. But then my squash opponent didn’t turn up, so I played some other guy and failed miserably. I suppose I got one set, but I could’ve played a lot better. Oh well, maybe next time ;)

Why are my blags getting longer? I mean, this one isn’t anywhere near as long as yesterday’s, but it’s longer than most. And it was all about one single day! Oh well, I do enjoy writing, so I’m not about to stop any time soon!

RIP Year 12

This is my first proper LiveJournal post, and it’s gonna be pretty long due to there being a lot happening over the last few days and me not blagging at any other time during those few days. Enjoy!

Well, Thursday was my last ever day of Year 12 classes! It was great fun, and pretty bludgy. I had frees first two periods, Maths third (we kind of did work, I suppose), a Year 12 meeting periods 4 & 5 to organise muck-up day, free pizza for lunch and Graphics periods 6 & 7, in which we ate waffles and drank spiders! Also, Anne (my teacher) had us take pictures of us doing (or pretending to do) all of the things we had always been told off for doing in previous years, such as drawing on the desks, sword-fighting with t-squares, throwing stuff and fighting with each other. Then we watched a slide-show of all the pictures taken throughout the class, which provided plenty of laughs. All up, a good day of school!

Apres l’ecole, we had afternoon tea and ‘entertainment’ with the staff. It was pretty nice – there was lots of food, although I don’t think I ate any, being full from pizza and waffles. Swindler gave Pete (our Information Systems teacher) a tshirt with a picture of him on it saying “World’s best Info Systems student” – a few days after the rest of the class signed a certificate I made congratulating Pete on how well he coped with the constant interjections of Swindler (he was rather annoying). Pete loved both items :D . The ‘entertainment’ turned out to be a performance of “Wheatus – Teenage Dirtbag” by a few of the teachers, which was so funny that half of us were crying. Gordy, a usually quiet and well-mannered photography teacher, played the main character, and looked hilarious, and to the shock of us all, Tony Duggan (the principal) turned out to be the boyfriend of Gordy’s love interest!! He was dressed in leather with a cigarette in his mouth, which is a massive contrast to his usual suit and tie! Other than the performance, there were some awards presented for things such as Best Couple (Edwin and Mollie, of course!), Most Prolific Smoker (Amanda), and Most Likely to Give a Headache (Megan, although I think Naomi should’ve got it).

Thursday night we all met at Ash’s place and played a bit of pool and stuff. While a fair few people were drinking alcohol, Sam was being different and drinking litres upon litres of water. I still have no idea why, but I really should find out some day. After a couple of hours, me, Edwin, Emma, Mollie and Elaine headed over to Pud’s house to watch movies and stuff. Edwin and I went out to drop my Mum’s car home (I figured she might want it to go to work in the morning) and to pick up supplies (Coke and chocolate). Twas a fun drive – I won :P , but only really because Edwin missed the turnoff to my place. On the way to the supermarket, we saw some of the people that stayed at Ash’s walking towards the clubs. They were absolutely pissed, and Edwin smartly locked the doors so they couldn’t do any harm (although Daniel still managed to get onto the car). Also, Merlyn and Nick and that chased us through the Coles carpark. Very interesting night indeed. We got to bed at about 2am, which usually wouldn’t be too bad, but we had to get up about 6am the next morning to go out for breakfast at Gee-Cee’s, which was rather delicious, but I didn’t eat all of mine because I was full of Coke (I drank a fair bit to get me going for the morning :P ). Then we headed out to school for…. MUCK-UP DAY!!!

Well, not exactly muck-up day – it was officially ‘Celebration Day’, and surprising enough nobody actually really mucked up! Basically, we had a house assembly first up and got presented with a couple of things from our homerooms. Then we got dressed up ready for our performances in front of the whole school. Our group for some reason danced around to Avril Levigne’s ‘Sk8er Boi’. Why – I have no idea. It was pretty lame :P . Actually most of them turned out pretty lame – especially because Santa (teacher, not actual Santa :P ) couldn’t get the music right and it was crap. Some were good though – such as the guys dressed up in pink hehehe :P . After that we had an assembly where people were presented with Academic Awards, which are for the highest academic achievement in each class. I got two – for Information Systems and Visual Communication & Design (Graphics). Then we got sent out and were basically escorted off the campus!

We went to Maccas after that for lunch, and some retard from St. Pat’s jumped out of a car and threw milkshake at us, then jumped back in the car and drove off. I think everyone who goes to St Pat’s is a retard – either an IQ of under 5 or a testosterone level of… EXTREME. Other than that, it was good fun though.

That night was the Year 12 party, which I was going to go to but then couldn’t be bothered – I don’t like large, loud parties with lots of alcohol – especially considering I don’t drink! But my brother was having friends over and playing Xbox, so I invited Jackson over and he brought his Xbox 360 and we system linked them and we had a great time playing Halo 2!! Haha nerds :P . So yeah, another really late night, with another early morning (my brother’s friends don’t seem to like sleep).

I can’t remember what I did on Saturday. I was too tired! I think I just sat around on the computer, mostly. Then at about 5:45 I was reminded by Swindler that Kale’s birthday party was at 6:30pm!! Argh!! So I quickly got ready and stuff and drove out to Zagame’s. Tea was really nice – I had a Greek Pizza. Mmmmm. Not many people turned up – I think most of them either forgot, were asleep, we hungover, or were still drunk. But it’s always nice with a smaller group I think (about 11). Then 5 people went off to watch movies, and the remaining six of us (me, Kale, Romain, Tiana, Tess and Peachy) couldn’t figure out what to do next. Tiana ended up suggesting going to the lake, so we headed off there and played tiggy on the adventure playgound. I haven’t done that for years, and it was AWESOME fun!! Then we went to Maccas and just sat and talked for probably a couple of hours. The group of people there aren’t people I would usually hang around a lot, but it was really awesome talking to them – I never knew what I was missing! I mean, Kale I am good friends with and talk to a fair bit, Romain I am friends with but haven’t seem a lot of him this year because he got an apprenticeship, Peachy I know but don’t get along with very well (and still don’t), and Tiana and Tess I have never really talked to at all. I really got along with Tiana – she’s very good to talk to, and Tess is pretty nice too! So yeah, we had a totally awesome time, until Tiana’s dad rang her to tell her to get home immediately (he gave her a curfew of 11pm, but for some reason expected her home before that). So I Peachy took Romain home, and I dropped Tiana home, Tess at Tiana’s house and Kale home. We went into Tiana’s house for a little while, but people had to get home so it wasn’t long. Then I headed off home (via the lookout, of course!) and went to bed!

That leaves us with today. Today hardly existed, because I woke up at 4pm after about 16 odd hours of sleep (and am still tired, mind you). So yeah, I didn’t do a lot at all today! I shall have to get into studying tomorrow probably, as exams start next Tuesday (so just over a week to get lots of cramming done!! :P ).

Well, I think we are at the end of a very long blag indeed! Probably the longest I have ever written, actually! Oh well, there was a lot to cover! The next one won’t be anywhere near as long, I promise :)

New Blag!

I have given up on Windows Live Spaces (MSN Spaces) – they are so gosh-darned slow and not even good! And now that I’m running Kubuntu Linux, I don’t have Windows Live Messenger (I use aMSN instead), I don’t see those flashy stars anyway, so it defeats the original purpose of having it.

A lot of people seem to have LiveJournals, so I figured they are pretty good and I should get one to replace my MSN Space. I hope it works out, and I don’t revert back to my MSN Space due to… something.

Anyway, there will be a new proper blag up very soon, which will have proper content which does not just give reasons as to why I am having a LiveJournal. Cya then!
